Yes, Cool Jobsters, I did give it my best shot today to find someone to tell us about his or her cool job, but alas my email box remains empty as of this moment. Rather than allow you to think I have neglected my corner of the blogosphere, and rather than tell another story about a cool job I’ve had (I’m saving those up for when I really need them!) I’m going to give you a list of the cool jobs that I’d most like to feature here in the near future.
Here they are in no particular order:
1. Sommelier
2. Taxidermist
3. Trauma surgeon
4. Celebrity Impersonator (I’d prefer Elvis, but I could live with Marilyn)
5. High School Chemistry Teacher
6. Rock musician
7. Farmer
8. Private Detective
9. Choreographer
10. Luthier
These are all cool jobs that interest me, and most of them are jobs that I’ve been attempting to feature on the site — but for whatever reason I’ve been unable to make it happen. If you have one of these jobs, or know someone who does, or even know a friend of a friend of a guy who you think might have mentioned that he knows someone who has one of these occupations, please drop me a line at jimsmuse@comcast.net!
I do promise you something fun tomorrow, even if I have to run myself over and then interview the paramedics on the way to the hospital. How’s that for devotion?
I’ll set my little pannini minions to scouring the planet. Incidentally, in regards to number 4, it reminds me of the bizarre-seeming new movie, Mister Lonely.
A niggling clot in my brain tells me that there is a historical California overlap among luthiers and surfboard makers. Is that useful or just random?
Good luck to you. I have none of the above qualifications *sigh*…
http://joyerickson.wordpress.com/
@pannonica – Seems random, but for my purposes a surfboard maker would be just as interesting as a luthier, so maybe I’ll explore that a bit!
@Joy – Don’t feel bad…we can’t all be taxidermists and Elvis Impersonators! I’m just glad you keep stopping by!
Oh, I wish I could help you out.
I am related to a retired High School Chemistry teacher, but I know he did not consider his job Cool, nor would he have anything to say for the question “What you you enjoy about your job?”. Even though he taught for over 30 years… sorry.
My co-worker is in a Death Metal Band, but it’s not really his job. However, if you are desperate, I could see if I can twist his arm. Apparently, they’re really good!
where ya been?!! i’m desperate for a dose of ‘my cool job.’ after my trip to richmond, i think you should try to get a person who works in costume–either in disney or the like–for my cool job! i’m sure they can tell us tales of woe we could never imagine.
no pressure, or anything.
duh..not richmond…COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG (where the people wear old-time costumes). it’s early here…forgive me.
You now have me interested in what a ‘luthier’ is.
@GeologyJoe — a luthier is someone who makes stringed instruments — some luthiers just make guitars or mandolins or banjos, and some make all different sorts.
Making fine instruments is such an interesting mix of musical talent, craftsmanship and artistry that I’ve always been interested. If I find a luthier, everyone who reads My Cool Job will know about it soon!
@ CWG – I’ve had the same thought myself, and it’s something I’m working on. Disney “cast members” in my understanding are threatened with all sorts of nasty if they give unapproved interviews, but I may have a line on “Sparky”, mascot for our local minor league baseball team. I’ll keep you posted!
I wonder if maybe, just maybe people are reluctant to tell of a cool job due to the fact that they are no longer employed at that particular job. Would it be ok to speak of a cool job that one had in the past? Or is current employment a prerequisite? BTW I am trying to goad some of my friends into sending you an e-mail. And I have odd friends with odd jobs.
pf
@PF Of course there is no requirement whatsoever that the Cool Job be current! If you have had a cool job in the past, I see no reason not to share about it.
Oh, and the fact that you have odd friends doesn’t surprise me in the least. And you must know enough about me by now to realize I mean that in a GOOD way!
My very best friend is a rock musician. It’s been his dream job since he was only 15 or so. Now he’s performing from one stage to another almost every night. But since he’s Indonesian who lives in Indonesia and never been anywhere else, I have this doubt that his cool job is cool enough for you and your readers.
I inform you this just in case you get tired of waiting for the kind of rock musician you expect to come…
Heheheh…
If you’re interested I can interview him for you, anytime.
~Yella Ojrak
@Yella — I think that would be very cool indeed! I have already sent you an email with more information about how we’re going to make this happen!
I have read your mail and am going to spend this afternoon interviewing him. If you have any other questions, you can email me anytime cause I can interview him anytime. Besides, he’s so excited about this.
~Yella Ojrak
@Yella: I can’t wait, and I hope you can find some way for me and the MCJ readers to hear some of his music!
That’s not a problem. I think, he’s got several songs of his band online already.
By the way, I have interviewed him. It was in Indonesian language, so I need some time to translate the interview into English.
Oh, Jim. I’m sorry. I’ve tried to send you the interview for days but always failed. I thought there was something wrong with my browser or my connection. But I just knew this morning that Indonesia has new policy: we cannot access yahoo mail, google mail, friendster, youtube, and any porn site. Stupid policy! I’ll try to get new email address now, one that’s not blocked by Indonesia. gosh… I’M SICK OF THIS COUNTRY!
